BIM in the field of AV (audio / video) planning

When a well-known furniture manufacturer told us about four years ago on a large project in Zurich that its furniture in a project at a large public financial institution in Germany is fully integrated, i.e. including metadata in the BIM model (building information modeling), it was clear to us that this will be the future and can also open up many possibilities in AV planning.
Accordingly, we promptly invested in BIM training (Man and Machine BIM Construction). Fortunately, as it turned out, because since 2020 BIM has been a prerequisite for more and more contracts in the field of professional AV planning.

Due to our early start and the use of BIM, even in projects where BIM was not required, Conceptions AG already has a lot of experience in this area. More and more AV devices are available as IFC models or natively in Revit and can thus be inserted directly into the AV model.

The advantages are manifold and it benefits both the planning process and the client:
Better coordination planning / communication

  • Simplified information management

  • More planning reliability

  • Visualization of collisions

  • Early error analysis

  • Easier controlling

  • Central data management

  • The client sees what he gets

  • Simplified cooperation of the client through visualization

  • Cost-efficient and high-quality planning and construction process

  • Use of augmented reality (AR) and BIM in the field (in execution)

  • Maintenance and operation directly from the BIM model

For example, integrating AV components such as projectors, screens, loudspeakers, mounts, substructures, LED video walls, etc. in the planning process ensures that they are automatically part of the coordination planning and that collisions between, for example, ventilation ducts and recessed ceiling loudspeakers are not discovered only on the construction site. The rolling planning that is widespread in Switzerland can also be counteracted by means of professional BIM coordination and the visualizations that can be generated from it. Thus, the client can decide every detail according to his wishes and needs before the start of construction by means of 3D visualizations up to VR movies. This contributes directly to a successful and cost-efficient planning and construction process.

Augmented reality (AR) and BIM in the field represent the logical continuation of the BIM process. Thus, it will also be important for AV companies to be able to offer BIM know-how in their portfolio.

The use of the metadata in the BIM model by the AV responsible FM on the part of the client or the AV service partner rounds off the added value of the original investment in AV BIM planning.

We are looking forward to exciting projects and the use of our planning competences in this specialist area as well. The tools for digitalized AV planning have definitely arrived and Conceptions AG has the ability to put them to work for you or your clientele.
